Aspire to Aquire
Blogging is not my strength, and I never seem to find time to write anything about what I am up to! I think it is because I am too busy either coding, writing grant applications or papers. However, big changes are ahead for Sire. Yesterday marked the first day of a new, two-year, EPSRC-funded project that will use the code in Sire as a foundation for two new pieces of software;
(1) Aspire - an adaptive multiresolution dynamics program
(2) Acquire - a WorkPacket/WorkQueue scheduling system
The EPSRC awarded funding based on a grant application I wrote (with colleagues ;-)) last October. It took a while to go through refereeing and panel, but was awarded in March, with start date September 5th. The project funds myself and another postdoc (to be hired - see the job advert here if you are interestedthis page.
As part of this project, we are collaborating with the Software Sustainability Institute in Edinburgh. They will help us with code documentation and building a user community. As part of this, I am going to be blog more about the day-to-day development of the code so that the community has more information about how the project is developing, and the current goals and milestones. As part of this, we are building online design documents, that should provide real-time information on the status of the projects, and on the expected features and progress to implementation. It will be pretty exciting, but also a little scary, as all development will be visible to all users...!
For more information about the project, see the main project webpage.
If you are interested, want to get more details about the job, or you want to help, then please feel free to email me, or to follow up the links and contacts in the job advert.
